Trial in Lviv Region for Illegal Oak Logging in Nature Reserve Zone

The indictment against a 26-year-old resident of the Zolochiv District has been sent for court review. If convicted, he faces a penalty of up to seven years of imprisonment.

Crime Details

Law enforcement officers found that the defendant illegally cut down trees of the ‘red oak’ species in a state forest enterprise located in the Northern Podillia National Nature Park, which is part of the nature reserve fund, without any permits. He subsequently sawed the trees and loaded the logs into a truck, at which point he was detained.

The total amount of damage to the state is nearly 430 thousand Ukrainian Hryvnias.

Investigation and Penalty

Investigators from Department No.1 of the Zolochiv District Police Department, under the procedural direction of the Zolochiv District Prosecutor’s Office, have completed the pre-trial investigation in the criminal case opened under Part 4 of Article 246 (Illegal cutting or illegal transportation, storage, sale of forest) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The indictment has been sent for court review.

The article’s sanction provides for imprisonment for a term of five to seven years.
