In Boryslav, a young man was shot in the leg while protecting an elderly woman

The detainee has already been notified of suspicion of hooliganism. He faces up to seven years in prison for what he has committed. There is no threat to the injured person’s life.

As determined by the operatives of the criminal police together with investigators and employees of other services of the Drohobytsk District Police Department, on February 4, around 9:00 p.m., the victim, a 16-year-old resident of the city of Boryslava, witnessed a conflict between a young man and an elderly woman while returning home. The young man intervened in the conflict to protect his grandmother, but a stranger, who had a device for firing rubber bullets, shot him, hitting him in the leg.

Later, medics performed an operation on the wounded man and removed the bullet – there is no threat to the boy’s life.

The law enforcement officers quickly identified the perpetrator, also a 32-year-old resident of Boryslav, and detained him in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. In addition, the police seized the weapon from which the shot was fired and sent it for expert examination.

On February 5, investigators of the territorial division of the police, under the procedural guidance of the Drohobytsk District Prosecutor’s Office, informed the detainee of the suspicion of committing a crime, provided for in Part 4 of Article 296 (Hooliganism) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The sanction of the article provides for punishment – imprisonment for a term of three to seven years.

The pre-trial investigation is ongoing, and soon the court will choose a preventive measure for the suspect.
