In Lviv, an SBU officer was sentenced to 14.5 years for treason

Halytskyi District Court of Lviv sentenced 32-year-old SBU counter-intelligence officer Serhiy Govorus. As the investigators established, the man worked for the Russian special services and passed official and secret information in the field of defense to the Russian Federation.

Serhiy Govorukha was found guilty of treason and sentenced to 14 and a half years of imprisonment. This was reported by the “Court Reporter”.

According to the court verdict, in September 2021, Serhiy Govorukha from the Kirovohrad region was appointed to the position of operational officer of the Department of Military Counterintelligence of the Security Service of Ukraine. At the end of that year, the man met a National Guardsman, who told him that he was approached by representatives of the Russian special services with an offer to cooperate. Then he gave the contacts to Serhiy Govorusi. In December 2021, the operational officer wrote to the e-mail and volunteered to work for the special services of the Russian Federation and transfer secret and official information.

From December to February 24, 2022, a counter-intelligence officer who worked in Kropyvnytskyi and Kyiv provided the Russian Federation with secret defense data for money. Serhiy Govorukha gave the Russian special services information about the location and characteristics of warehouses with ammunition, aerial bombs, anti-tank missiles and the exact locations of military units. For this I received 17 thousand hryvnias.

From the beginning of the full-scale invasion until February 28, the defendant provided the Russians with accurate information about the number, location, and affiliation of some of the military aircraft at the airfield. And also data on the provision of ammunition. The SBU detained the man on February 28.

Serhiy Govorukha did not admit his guilt. The man explained that he did not give any information to the Russian Federation, and the accusation against him was allegedly completely fabricated by the SBU employees in the Kherson region. He also denied that he had passed on data about the airport, which later, on March 1, was fired upon by the Russian military.

The man was found guilty of treason. Serhii Govorusi was sentenced to 14 years and 6 months in prison with confiscation of all his property. The verdict can be appealed in the appeals court.
