Information from video surveillance cameras installed as part of the “Safe Lviv Region” program helped law enforcement officers quickly expose and detain the perpetrator – a 22-year-old resident of Khmelnytskyi region, as well as search for the stolen car.
On April 28, around 2:00 p.m., the operative line 102 received a report from a 23-year-old resident of Lviv region about the illegal possession of his BMW X5 car, which happened on Lypinsky Street in Lviv.
Operatives of the Department of Criminal Investigation and the Department of Criminal Analysis of the Police of Lviv region, employees of the Department of Internal Security in the Lviv region, as well as investigators and operatives of the criminal police of police department No. 1 of Lviv district police department No. 1 were involved in solving the crime.
With the help of video surveillance cameras installed as part of the “Safe Lviv Region” program, law enforcement officers on the same day established the location of the car – in one of the villages near Lviv, as well as the identity of the attacker involved in its abduction – a 22-year-old resident of Khmelnytskyi region.
The man was detained in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. Investigators of the territorial division of the police, under the procedural guidance of the Galicia District Prosecutor’s Office, informed him of the suspicion of committing a criminal offense provided for in Part 2 of Article 289 (Illegal possession of a vehicle) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The maximum penalty provided by the article is imprisonment for a term of five to eight years with or without confiscation of property.
The pre-trial investigation is ongoing, the court chose a preventive measure for the suspect – detention with the possibility of bail.
