Since the beginning of the year, 119 road accidents involving cyclists have occurred. Of this number, 100 were accidents with victims, in which 10 people died and 102 were injured.
The Lviv regional police urge you to strictly follow the traffic rules, be careful, do not exceed the speed limit, maneuver carefully and constantly monitor the road situation. Take care of your life and health – yours and those around you.
On August 7, at about 11:00 a.m., on the Kyiv-Chop highway near the village of Humnyska, Zolochiv district, a Scania P410 truck driver, a 57-year-old resident of Kyiv region, hit a cyclist, a 46-year-old resident of Zolochiv district. As a result of the accident, the woman was injured and hospitalized in intensive care.
Another traffic accident occurred at around 15:40 on the Lviv-Pustomyty highway in the village of Sokilnyky, Lviv district. As law enforcement officers have preliminarily established, the driver of a Smart Cabrio, a 22-year-old local resident, collided with an electric bicycle driven by a 41-year-old resident of one of the villages in the district. As a result of the accident, the man was injured and hospitalized.
Investigators of the territorial police units opened criminal proceedings over these facts under Part 1 of Article 286 (Violation of the rules of road safety) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The maximum penalty provided for by the sanction of the article is up to three years of imprisonment with deprivation of the right to drive vehicles for up to three years.
Law enforcement officers are establishing all the circumstances of the incident.
