Transcarpathian Criminal Group Suing for Smuggling Draft Dodgers to Romania

Transcarpathian Smugglers in Court

In the Transcarpathian region, four local residents, including a district council member, have become defendants in illegally smuggling individuals across the state border of Ukraine to avoid conscription. Following their instructions, draft dodgers used a ‘green corridor’, moving through forest paths and avoiding official checkpoints.

Operation and Consequences

The Specialized Prosecutor’s Office of the Western Region has submitted an indictment to the court. The operation involved gathering those willing to evade conscription at a predetermined location and subsequently relocating them close to the border. The investigation revealed that such a service cost ‘clients’ 8000 dollars. Significant amounts of cash and physical evidence were seized during the searches.

Legal Prospects for the Defendants

The four criminals were detained, and preventive measures are being considered. If proven guilty, they face imprisonment for up to 9 years. The pre-trial investigation was conducted based on materials from the National Police and the operational search department of the border guard unit.
