In the Lviv region, they plan to expand the territory of the Skolivski Beskydy NPP

Such an idea was proposed during a meeting of representatives of the branch of the Frankfurt Zoological Society, Skolivski Beskydy NPP, Skoliv Military Forest Farm, KEV of Lviv.

Therefore, they discussed the ways of preserving valuable territories on which the economic activity of the State Enterprise “Skolivskyi Military Forest Farm” is conducted. We are talking about the territory with an area of more than 10,000 hectares, which is located inside the massif of the park, however, it was included in the park without being withdrawn from the user.

According to scientific research (forestry, botanical, zoological, geographical), there are unique and typical landscapes, species of plants and animals listed in the Red Book of Ukraine on the territory of the Skoliv Military Forest Farm, migration routes of many species of animals pass here, including bison, bears, etc. The highest point of the “Skolivski Beskydy” NPP – the ridge with the peak of the town of Parashka (1,268 m) is located on the territory of the Skolivsky Military Forest Farm.

The most effective way to preserve this valuable territory is to transfer it to the national park for permanent use, which will reduce the load on natural complexes and limit the use of resources.

In order to ensure the full functioning of the high-ranking object of the nature reserve fund of Ukraine – the national nature park “Skolivskyi Beskydy”, the participants of the meeting supported the proposal to prepare a reasoned appeal to the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine regarding the expediency of transferring the land on which the Skolivskyi military forest farm operates to the permanent use of the park.

“The natural value of the territory is confirmed by the fact that there are areas of ancient forests and quasi-forests. As a result, in 2016, natural attractions were announced – “Under Parashka” and “Koziy”. The transfer of the territory to the park will undoubtedly create appropriate conditions for the preservation of biodiversity. In addition, this will be an impetus for the implementation of projects for the rehabilitation, including psychological rehabilitation, of defenders and citizens affected by the Russian war, in natural conditions,” said the acting deputy. Oksana Viytyk, Director of the Department of Ecology and Natural Resources.

The Carpathians are looking for long-term solutions for the effective use of their natural potential, taking into account the ecological, socio-cultural and economic consequences. On the one hand, the territories of natural parks need investments for the development of infrastructure for recreation, on the other hand, the growing human pressure caused by the increase in the volume of tourist traffic can be very harmful to the nature conservation territories of the Carpathians.

Thus, the development of active tourism should be based on the concept of sustainability – balancing the needs of tourists and preserving the natural environment. This is the focus of the project – preservation and promotion of nature conservation areas of the Carpathians on the basis of sustainable tourism.
