Traveling on jeeps, enduro motorcycles, quad bikes and buggies is harmful to the environment.
To prevent a negative impact on nature, the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Ukraine has developed a draft law amending the Law of Ukraine “On the Nature Reserve Fund of Ukraine” and the Code of Ukraine on Administrative Offenses.
The proposed document provides for a ban on the movement of motor vehicles on the territories of the nature reserve fund. This prohibition does not apply to public roads, city streets and roads in populated areas, as well as motor roads in private territories.
Such a step is aimed at preserving biodiversity, protecting it from destruction, as well as from the harmful effects of chemical pollution, noise and vibrations caused by automobile traffic.
“Ecologists, conservationists and public activists have been sounding the alarm for years about the irreversible losses caused to the Carpathians by lovers of extreme entertainment. Therefore, the proposed draft law is a step in the right direction to preserve our natural environment. The so-called “jeeping” significantly damages the environment, threatening biodiversity and natural ecosystems in the territories of the nature reserve fund,” said the acting director. Oksana Viytyk, director of the department of ecology and natural resources of OVA.
Such an initiative received support from public organizations and environmental activists, which indicates the importance of this issue for society. The next step is for the bill to be approved by central authorities to ensure that these restrictions are effectively implemented and that our environment is preserved for future generations.
