RudnO: the village will return its historical name

The village in the Lviv community will return its historical name – Rudno. The appropriate renaming was supported by the commission on local self-government development of the Lviv Regional Council yesterday, August 17. The next step is the session of the Lviv Regional Council and the Verkhovna Rada, where the final decision must be made.

“Local residents have sought this for more than one year in a row. At one time, the name was changed without their consent. Therefore, the current decision of the regional council commission, which finally supported the renaming to Rudno, is not only about the restoration of historical justice,” the LMR city agglomeration department notes.

“The name Rudno began to be changed to Rudno sometime in 2008-2009 with the beginning of electronic document management. None of the locals were warned about such an important decision. Not even public hearings were held. Later it became clear that the decision itself does not exist as a document in nature. In addition to disrespecting the residents of the village, such changes provoked significant overlaps in the preparation of documents. So everyone tried to return the historical name. The fact that the village was called Rudno is evidenced by the materials of the State Archive of the Lviv region and many other historical factors,” says Nataliya Ustymenko, head of the Lviv Community Office in Rudno.

In 2019, the executive committee of the Rudne settlement council adopted a decision “On public discussion of proposals for renaming the settlement of Rudne”. The results were sent to the Lviv Regional Council for consideration. It was about this return of the historical name that the locals emphasized at the strategic planning session regarding the development of the village, when it was discussed about the formation of the Lviv MTG.

“After changing the name of the village, residents will not have to produce new documents. An exception will be registration actions during the purchase/sale, if Rudne is indicated in the ownership documents, then you will have to take a decision or a certificate on renaming the settlement,” Nataliya Ustymenko added.

We will remind you that in June of this year, as part of the de-Russification of toponymy, 5 streets in the village were renamed.
