Three people in Lviv were poisoned by carbon monoxide

As reported in the Department of Emergency Situations, Civil Protection of the Population and Territorial Defense, on May 6, around 8:42 p.m., in an apartment in a multi-story residential building on the street. Residents of General Chuprinka’s apartment were poisoned by carbon monoxide: a 37-year-old woman and her children – a 7-year-old girl and a 4-year-old boy.

The injured were taken to St. Nicholas Children’s Hospital. According to the hospital, the woman and her children are currently being treated and are receiving all the necessary medical assistance, including barotherapy sessions (saturation of the body with oxygen).

In total, since the beginning of the year, 27 cases of carbon monoxide poisoning have been recorded in the city, as a result of which 53 people were injured, 16 of them children. Unfortunately, one person died. The causes of these poisonings were non-observance of the rules for using gas appliances in the home, violation of draft through sealed windows and electric hoods.

Experts once again emphasize that the main requirement to avoid trouble is the flow of fresh air into the room where there are heating devices – through the window, door and ventilation channel, which must be constantly cleaned, and in which there must be an appropriate draft so that the exhaust gases are released into the atmosphere . Where devices are installed with flue discharge of combustion products into the chimney – that is, gas cats or speakers, etc., then this chimney must also be clean. And in no case can there be electric fans in such rooms. If one of these rules is not followed, then carbon monoxide begins to form in the room and trouble occurs.

REMEMBER! Gas is explosive, and the slightest violation of the rules can lead to tragedy with human casualties – explosion, fire, poisoning and destruction. In all accidents related to the use of gas (explosion, fire, poisoning), you should call one of the city services: ambulance – 103, fire department – 101, gas department – 104, police – 102. Any of these services will notify the rest and they will arrive at the scene.
