In Lviv, more than 35% of passengers pay by cashless payment

For two months now, all public transport in Lviv has been using cashless fares. According to Lvivavtodor, the number of passengers paying with LeoCards or bank cards is constantly growing.

Thus, according to the results of the previous week, 36% of passengers pay for travel by cashless payment. On average, about 40% of passengers register their travel on public transport with discounted and student LeoCards every week. About 24% of people pay for their journeys in cash. In total, over 16 million trips were registered in the e-ticket system within two months.

“Following the results of the first two months, the dynamics of the transition to cashless fare payment remains positive. More and more passengers are choosing this payment method. In the first week, only 16% of passengers paid by cashless payment in public transport, while almost 44% of people bought a paper ticket from the driver,” said Lvivavtodor.

The utility added that during this time, controllers checked the travel records of more than 497,000 passengers. Due to the lack of payment or validation of travel, controllers issued about 3,000 fines. Police officers issued another 60 tickets for unregistered travel. By the way, the money paid for the fine ticket (UAH 300) goes to the carriers. And the funds from the payment of a fine imposed by the police (UAH 400) go to the state budget.

As a reminder, since 26 January, “secret passengers” have also been working in public transport. These are employees of the control department of Lvivavtodor, who are dressed in civilian clothes. “Their main task is to document violations by drivers and passengers. So far, we have recorded more than 100 violations committed by drivers. All the information collected is being passed on to the carriers and the Department of Urban Mobility and Street Infrastructure for response,” said Mykola Vlasiuk, director of Lvivavtodor.

We would like to add that the rest of the functionality provided by the e-ticket system is currently being developed. This includes the transition to paying carriers for transport work, launching travel passes, transfers and a mobile application.

As a reminder, cashless payment on all city routes was launched in Lviv on 11 December last year. Most passengers who pay by cashless payment use a common LeoCard. This is the cheapest way to travel and costs UAH 13. As of today, residents have purchased more than 92,000 LeoCards.
