Spawning is the most important period in the life of fish, the process of mass natural reproduction of aquatic biological resources, which occurs during a period determined by climatic and biological conditions.
In order to create favorable conditions for spawning, from April 1, 2024, an annual spring-summer spawning ban on catching aquatic biological resources will begin on the vast majority of fishing water bodies in Ukraine.
Fishing during this period is allowed only from the shore outside spawning grounds with hook fishing tools with no more than two hooks per angler or spinning with one artificial bait.
At the same time, during spawning, the movement of all vehicles or motor vessels on the reservoirs is prohibited (with the exception of established navigation routes), with the exception of vessels used by fish protection bodies and other authorized state authorities. Commercial fishing and spearfishing are also prohibited.
Failure to comply with these requirements is subject to penalties ranging from administrative fines to criminal liability, as well as compensation for losses caused to the fishery. Therefore, we warn not too law-abiding fishermen against violations, also taking into account the fact that during the spawning period, fish guards of the State Fisheries Agency carry out increased control over water bodies.
So, by the order of the head of the Lviv OVA, Maksym Kozytsky, the following is required:
1. Establish a ban on the extraction (fishing) of aquatic biological resources in fishery water bodies (parts thereof) of the Lviv region in 2024 in the following terms:
– in the basin of the Dniester River from April 1 to June 10;
– in the basins of the Western Bug, Sian and Styr rivers from April 1 to May 20;
– in all reservoirs, technical reservoirs from April 1 to June 10;
– in ancillary systems of reservoirs (channels, estuaries, backwaters, overflows of reservoirs that are temporarily filled with water during the spring flood) from April 1 to June 30
