Andriy Zakalyuk, Head of the Department of Education, summarised how much money was spent on arranging shelters for schools and kindergartens and how many lessons students missed due to air raid alerts.
“The safety of children comes first. There is a war going on in Ukraine, but despite all the challenges, our schools held classes and our kindergartens held classes.
This year, almost UAH 34 million was spent from the Lviv city budget on the construction of shelters in schools and almost UAH 9 million in kindergartens. The total amount is UAH 42.5 million. Improving shelters is an ongoing process, but these are the expenditures that are a priority.
There is also a perception that air raids interfere with the offline educational process. I would like to respond with facts: out of 175 school days, the average 7th grade student missed only 8 days, or 60 lessons, due to air raids. This is only 4.5%. That is, almost 96% of the time at school, children had full lessons and training,” said Andriy Zakalyuk.
The city’s chief educator also said that in May a survey was conducted by the UCU Centre for the Dignity of the Child on school safety. You can read it here.
As a reminder, the head of the city education department told how many children will go to the first grade of schools and kindergartens in the Lvivska hromada in September.
