The new school year in Lviv Oblast will begin on September 1: 294,000 children will study in 1,093 institutions

Як розпочнеться навчальний рік на Львівщині: розповів начальник Львівської ОВА Максим Козицький

The new school year in the Lviv region will begin traditionally – on September 1. More than 294,000 children will receive school education in the region in 1,093 institutions.

Maksym Kozytskyi, head of the Lviv Regional Military Administration, told about providing schools with shelters, transporting students to study, military-patriotic education – how schooling will begin in the Lviv region in the second year of a full-scale war with Russia.

Shelter:

“Only seven educational institutions of the region do not have shelters, so their students will study remotely. Schools in which students will study full-time or in a mixed form use 1,199 facilities for shelter. In order for all of them to be in proper condition, almost 30 million hryvnias were allocated from the state budget. More than 5 million is co-financing from local budgets.

Parents of schoolchildren have the right to ask the school administration to inspect the shelters to make sure they are there and in good condition. Community heads are responsible for the condition of shelters. The decision on the form of education is made by each institution independently, taking into account the availability and capacity of the shelter,” said the head of the Lviv OVA.

School network:

“Due to the demographic decline, we have to optimize the school network, we have to understand that a school where five students study and all subjects are taught by one teacher cannot provide a high-quality educational process. That is why the first bell will not ring in 34 institutions of our region this year,” Maksym Kozytskyi said.

Transportation to schools:

According to the head of Lviv Oblast, 29,500 students need transportation to schools in Lviv Oblast. As of today, the school fleet of the region provides transportation for 27,000 schoolchildren. The rest of the children are transported with carriers in accordance with the concluded contracts. This year, Lviv OVA and territorial communities will purchase another 70 “schoolchildren” with support from the state budget, and the transportation issue will be completely resolved.

Military and patriotic education:

The head of Lviv OVA emphasized that the school, in addition to other tasks, should educate physically and spiritually strong and conscious citizens who know their history, cheer for their state and despise enemies. 31 million hryvnias were allocated for the furnishing of “Defence of Ukraine” offices, taking into account co-financing from the communities.

Form of education:

The Department of Education and Science of the Lviv OVA also notes that the school will be predominately full-time. It will have to be combined with distance learning, and a mixed form will also be applied, as was the case in the previous academic year. It is assumed that 227,859 students will receive their education in the new academic year in full-time mode, 64,682 – mixed, and 1,470 – remotely. The department emphasizes that Lviv Oblast is one of the leaders in Ukraine in the implementation of distance education.

In the conditions of Russia’s war against Ukraine, the organization of high-quality distance learning is very important for children who moved from the temporarily occupied territories to our region or went abroad. Despite the war, children must study because this is their future.

“Distance education creates additional innovative opportunities in the classical system of face-to-face education. That is why the project “MOODLE is about 100!” is being implemented in Lviv region. – in accordance with the Education Development Program of the Lviv Region for 2021-2025. It is about the introduction of a digital educational environment based on the free, most widespread educational platform in the world. One of its main goals is to involve 100 educational institutions in the project every year, and by this time hundreds of teachers have already completed training courses. And in the Mostysk Territorial Community, this platform has already been implemented in all 16 schools,” LOVA’s Department of Education and Science reported.

“Are these efforts yielding results? I will answer with numbers: every fourth student in Ukraine who passed the NMT with 600 points this year, and every eighth student who passed the NMT with 200 points, is from Lviv Oblast. Many thanks to students, teachers and parents for this. Let’s continue,” concluded the head of Lviv OVA.
