On the eve of Saint Nicholas Day, the city’s main Christmas tree will be lit in the center of Lviv. Today, it was taken from the yard of the residents who donated the tree to the city, and installed on the square in front of the Lviv Opera House.
This year’s main Lviv Christmas tree is 14 meters tall. It was donated by the residents of Bilogorshche, Josyp and Halyna Panas. The owners say that they love this Christmas tree very much, because it is very beautiful, but it is already too big for their yard, so they decided to give it to the city. They hope that Lviv residents and guests of Lviv will like it.
“My husband brought this Christmas tree from the Carpathians about 20 years ago. It grew 14 meters from such a small seedling. We used to decorate her every year for Christmas, but over time it became impossible, because she has grown so much!
We decided in this difficult time for the country, when everyone is trying to save money, to present our Christmas tree to the Lviv community. We think that it is now more appropriate than ever. We are pleased to give such a gift and hope that the people of Lviv will like it, and the lights that will be lit on it will warm the thoughts that good will surely win,” says Mrs. Halyna.
It is important that not only the tree, but also its cutting, transportation and installation is free for the city.
“Before cutting the Christmas tree, we inspect it and carry out preparatory actions. It is important for us to do everything correctly in order to cut the tree as carefully as possible and put it on the tractor so as not to damage the Christmas tree. It is equally important to install it in the center of the city.
The entrepreneurs give us the crane and tractor free of charge, and the work of the people involved in the process is also not financed separately, because they are employees of our LKP. That is, the city does not spend a single penny on the main Christmas tree,” explains Andriy Shulskyi, deputy director of the “Zeleny Lviv” LKP.
We will remind you that the main Christmas tree of Lviv will be decorated with light illumination, which was purchased back in 2018, and instead of a star, an anti-tank “hedgehog” made at Lviv Electrotrans will be symbolically hung on the top.
It is interesting that the lighting of the holiday tree will consume 1 kW per hour (for comparison, an electric kettle consumes 1.7 to 2.5 kW per hour, and a washing machine consumes 1.8-2.3 kW). In the event of a power outage on Svoboda Avenue, the Christmas tree will not be lit separately.
