The Mayor of Lviv, Andriy Sadovyi, has vetoed the resolution regarding the construction of an underground car park on Mickiewicz Square, which was adopted at the plenary session of the city council on 30 April. He cited the reason for this decision as the investor’s failure to provide the community with sufficient and clear explanations regarding the project’s implementation.
The mayor released this information after the public raised concerns about the feasibility of constructing an underground car park in the historic part of the city. “I read Facebook, talked to the councillors. We did not see an adequate response from the investor, who was given the opportunity to build an underground car park on Mickiewicz Square. Therefore, we made a joint decision to veto the resolution, which became controversial because big business cannot explain clearly and effectively how they will build this car park,” wrote Andriy Sadovyi.
He also suggested holding an open public presentation with explanations and answers to the questions posed by the public. “Thank you for your attention to this issue. This is further proof that civil society in Lviv is not just an empty phrase,” emphasised the mayor.
