Lviv region focuses on helping people who need social support

Despite the daily practical work, our region is actively developing its own Strategy and program of assistance to such categories of population, in particular IDPs, and also provides proposals for national programs.

Recently, during a meeting of the Coordination Staff of the Coordination Center of the Lviv region, attention was focused on the need to create a separate state program for the operation and expansion of the network of facilities and institutions that provide inpatient care services in communities.

The purpose of such a program is to provide social support for the elderly, as well as those who need help due to health limitations.

During the meeting, it was proposed to create a system of compensation from the state budget for the provision of inpatient care services in such facilities and institutions, in particular for the relevant categories of citizens and persons with special needs. This will open up an opportunity to create inpatient care centers that will provide the necessary social support to those who really need it.

“Currently, approximately 6,700 people from the category of IDPs live in Lviv region, of which 900 are people with disabilities, but these numbers are not exhaustive. Lviv Oblast became one of the first regions to adopt an active direction in finding housing solutions and creating centers in communities for older people who need social support. We are very grateful to those communities that today are actively helping this category of people with their own efforts and with the support of international partners,” said Halyna Bordun, head of the Coordination Center at the Lviv OVA, adviser to the head of the Lviv OVA.

Therefore, for effective work in this direction, key tasks were identified: coordination between specialists of psychosocial services from international partners and employment, as well as the possibility of retraining.

“Synchronization of actions between the psychosocial assistance of international organizations, the employment center and vocational and technical education institutions will help ensure training and retraining for the target audience,” added Halyna Bordun.

As it was emphasized during the meeting of the Coordination Center of Lviv Oblast, the Employment Center plays an important role in finding a job for those who are looking for employment.

Statistics show that currently only 3,700 people are registered in the employment center. 85% of the registered unemployed are women. But there are much more vacancies for men.

To improve the employment situation, it was suggested to consider the possibilities of job search and retraining. Today, the job center offers retraining vouchers that can help with new skills and jobs.

The most successful strategy is the synchronization of actions and cooperation of all interested parties.

“To achieve success in these efforts, there are institutions that provide retraining and support in finding a job. In addition, it is important to promote the diversity of educational programs, in particular Ukrainian and English language courses, as well as computer courses. The popularization of key specialties and the development of cooperation between all participants will help create a strong basis for improving the lives of this category of the population,” representatives of the Lviv Regional Employment Center noted.

Top vacancies in Lviv region today: seamstress, driver of motor vehicles, cook, cashier of a trading hall, salesperson, auxiliary worker, janitor, waiter, porter, policeman, security guard, baker, sales consultant, wheeled vehicle repair mechanic.

“Our common goal is to create conditions that will help people transform their lives and find new perspectives, as well as become an active part of society. The coordination headquarters, together with international partners, the department of economy, the department of education and science, the department of social protection of LOVA and the regional employment center decided to join forces for coordination and information regarding retraining and employment opportunities,” added Halyna Bordun.
