Today, on December 29, the first meeting of the working group on decommunization in the territory of Lviv region was held. The meeting discussed the problems of decommunization in Lviv region and proposals for their solution, and also made specific proposals for the completion of the process of decommunization and decolonization in the region.
According to the first deputy head of the Lviv Regional Military Administration, as well as the chairman of the working group Andriy Hour, decommunization is not only the issue of the implementation of the Law of Ukraine “On Condemnation of Communist and National Socialist (Nazi) totalitarian regimes in Ukraine and the prohibition of propaganda of their symbolism.
“This is, first and foremost, counteracting the criminal ideology that we have been planted for decades. I am grateful to the public initiative “local decommunization”, because the initiative people are the driver of all positive processes. I want the year 2023 to be the year of completion of decommunization, because it is not a war with monuments, but a purposeful counteraction to imperial ideology. We have our own heroes that we have to remember and perpetuate in monuments and memorials. Unfortunately, not all communities of Lviv region have a fundamental position, so there should be a network of such working groups that will operate in the areas of the region for more efficient work, ”Andriy Holy said.
The senior soldier of the 80th separate airborne assault brigade Anton Petrovsky noted that Lviv region was always a region-Rushii, from where Ukrainian-centric changes began.
“It is a very big responsibility for us to be a driving force, so we need to show everyone that we are capable of consolidation and clear design steps. One of the problematic issues is the indecision of local authorities in certain OTGs. The creation of such a working group should give a certain impulse for local authorities, as deputies or representatives of the authorities who counteract these processes may be on the ground. Also problematic are some residents of the region, still disagreeing with such processes. We are preparing information to convince such people. Also, in the process of decommunization, there is always a political component, but I would like it to happen not on the principle of political or electoral interest, but in accordance with the requirements of time. We must show an example for all Ukraine that we have completed this process both quantitatively and qualitatively, ”said Anton Petrovsky.
According to the results of the working group meeting, they decided to create working groups on decommunization at district military administrations, which should gather information about the presence of monuments and tables of the Soviet era (dedicated to soldiers of the Soviet Army, collective farmers, Soviet astronauts and figures, events, events in the area They glorify the USSR or the Russian Empire, etc.), with compulsory photo fixation, as well as Soviet place names that are subject to decommunization, in accordance with the current legislation or the needs of time. And then, creating the relevant register, the participants of the working group plan target trips to districts and community to assess the situation and encourage local authorities to effectively within the current legislation of Ukraine.
