Lviv region has become a pilot region in the process of structural changes in coal regions in Ukraine.
The project “Just Transition of Coal Regions and Green Recovery of Ukraine’s Energy Sector”, implemented in Ukraine by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection (BMWK), supports the process of just transformation of the Chervonohrad coal microregion in partnership with the Lviv Regional Military Administration and Chervonohrad City Council.
As part of this cooperation, the Just Transition urban space was created. And today, on April 10, its work was launched.
“I am pleased to see partners moving forward and taking practical steps. I am grateful to GIZ for a reliable and effective partnership. I would like to emphasize that we will be evaluated not by the number of offices opened, but by the number of projects implemented. Our first joint project – the opening of the Renewable Energy Training Center – is a great result, and I would like us to implement several similar projects in a year. The Office of Just Transformation was created to facilitate such ideas. When we talk about the transformation of the coal region, we must first of all think about people and their quality of life in various areas. Of course, transformation is not something that happens overnight, but with the right partners and community engagement, it can be done,” said Maksym Kozytskyi, head of the Lviv Regional State Administration.
The Fair Transformation Space has been opened in Chervonohrad at 9 Kupchynskoho Street.
The premises will house the GIZ office, the Fair Transformation Agency and a conference room with the necessary equipment for events and meetings. The space will become a platform for meetings and discussions on the transformation and development of the Chervonohrad Coal Microregion.
The space was opened with funds from GIZ. It will also be available to citizens – the GIZ office can provide information and consulting services to the public on what joint projects are being implemented in the Chervonohrad microregion and how the public sector can join them.
