The total amount of grant resources attracted to the region is over EUR 15 million
Yesterday, on April 18, a meeting of the Monitoring Committee of the Interreg NEXT Poland-Ukraine 2021-2027 program took place in Krosno (Republic of Poland). The participants selected the winning projects under the Environment priority and approved funding for them.
“Lviv region will receive more than 15 million euros in grant assistance for the implementation of environmental projects. Among the regions in western Ukraine, Lviv Oblast will implement the largest number of projects under the Interreg NEXT Poland – Ukraine 2021-2027 Program in the Environment priority. 45% of the grant funds that our state will receive will go to our region. We are talking about 16 projects submitted by communities and institutions of our region together with partners,” said Maksym Kozytskyi, head of the Lviv Regional State Administration.
Five of the 16 projects under the Environment priority will promote climate change adaptation and increase resilience to natural disasters and catastrophes. The other seven projects aim to promote access to water and sustainable water management. Four aim to strengthen the protection and conservation of nature, biodiversity, and green infrastructure.
The event was attended by Khrystyna Zamula, Deputy Head of the Lviv Regional Water Authority, and Iryna Butynets, Director of the International Cooperation Department of the Lviv Regional Water Authority.
“It is valuable that a significant part of these projects is aimed at reconstructing or building sewage treatment and sewage facilities, the financing of which has always been one of the most problematic areas for communities. This time, these works can be financed with grant funds,” said Khrystyna Zamula. “It is obvious that in the current conditions of a full-scale war, neither the state nor the communities have the material capacity to allocate funds for development or significantly improve the lives of their residents. That is why such EU programs are very important to us. This is an opportunity to continue creating safe and modern conditions for residents, to improve the quality of life of those who work every day and pay taxes to the state treasury.”
“We are very pleased with the result, as we will be able to attract a significant amount of money to the Lviv region – more than EUR 15 million. The Poland-Ukraine 2021-2027 program covers six Ukrainian oblasts, and 45% of the grant funds allocated for them under the Environment priority will go to our cities and villages,” said Iryna Butynets. “I thank the communities for their active participation in this competition and initiative. We believe in the successful implementation of each project.”
