The institution published on its website an official expert opinion regarding the appropriateness of the name of the city of Chervonograd, Lviv region, to the symbolism of Russian imperial policy.
This was reported by Zakhar Mylyanyk
Here is an excerpt of the last paragraph:
“In view of the above, the name of the city of Chervonograd, Lviv region, as such, which is connected with the implementation of Russian imperial policy (the establishment of Soviet power on the territory of Ukraine), in accordance with the subparagraph “is” of paragraph 4 of the first part of Article 2 of the Law, belongs to the symbolism of the Russian imperial policy”.
It is about the Law of Ukraine “On Condemnation and Prohibition of Propaganda of Russian Imperial Policy in Ukraine and Decolonization of Toponymy”, according to which the final recommendation on the renaming of settlements, after a professional examination, is provided by the UINP to the legislators.
In the conclusion of the Institute of National Remembrance, they also write: “The toponym Chervonograd is not the original name of the settlement of Lviv region, which now has this name.
The historical name of the city of Chervonograd is Krystynopol (variants of the name Krystynopil, Krystynopil also functioned)”.
Therefore, from the new year, in accordance with the provisions of the Law, the Verkhovna Rada will be able to vote and choose a new name for the city or return the historical one.
