Fines will be issued for the sale and purchase of early flowering plants in the Drohobytsk community

With the onset of the spring-summer period, the issue of preserving early flowering plants, including those listed in the Red Book of Ukraine, is particularly relevant.

Every year, in the spring period, in Drohobych region, as well as in other regions of Ukraine, there is a mass trade in early-flowering species of plants, which are rare and under threat of extinction.

Folded snowdrop, ordinary snowdrop (white snowdrop), bear’s onion (cheremsha), all types of dream grass, tulip, double-leaved and Siberian snowdrops, lily of the valley, white spring flower, Heifel saffron, spring saffron – this is far from a complete list of primroses. All these plants are on the verge of extinction.

Trading in primroses is a violation of the Laws of Ukraine “On Environmental Protection”, “On Plant Life”, “On the Red Book of Ukraine” and the Rules of Trade on Markets.

In Drohobych, people will be prosecuted for trading on the market and outside the market in rare and endangered plants.

By order of the mayor of Drohobych, a special task force was created to monitor the situation.

The working group will conduct inspections on the territory of the city in order to prevent the illegal collection and trade of such plants.

It should be understood that during the collection of early-flowering Red Book plants, devastating damage is caused to nature – the plant loses the opportunity to form seeds and give a new generation. Also, complete destruction of the plant occurs if it is pulled out with the bulb.

Thus, in order to prevent violations of the requirements of the current nature protection legislation in terms of illegal collection and procurement, trade in rare and disappearing early-flowering plants and primroses, we call on all residents of the Drohobytsk community to be aware, to protect nature and not to destroy early-flowering plants.
