A new state-of-the-art, expert-class CT scanner has begun operating at the Lviv Regional Oncology Treatment and Diagnostic Centre. The equipment makes it possible to detect oncological diseases more quickly and accurately, to plan treatment and to monitor its results.
For patients, this means shorter waiting times for examinations, an increase in the number of people who can undergo diagnostics each day, greater accuracy of results and faster decision-making on further treatment. This in turn improves the chances of starting to fight the disease in good time.
The scanner was purchased thanks to international cooperation. A total of UAH 46 million in grant funding was raised to buy the equipment under the project “Development of Polish-Ukrainian cooperation in cancer diagnosis and treatment” of the Interreg NEXT Poland–Ukraine 2021–2027 Programme. A further UAH 2.2 million was allocated to purchase an uninterruptible power supply for the machine.
To complete the financing of the scanner, more than UAH 13 million was additionally allocated from the regional budget. To ensure the full operation of the new equipment, a major refurbishment was carried out in the radiology department of the oncology centre, for which the institution used more than UAH 6.6 million of its own funds.
The announcement also acknowledges the contribution of the staff of the Lviv Oncology Centre, its general director, Oleh Duda, the Polish partners and the Interreg NEXT Poland–Ukraine Programme team, whose cooperation made it possible to implement this project.
Since the beginning of 2024, more than UAH 280 million has already been directed from the regional budget towards the development of the Lviv Oncology Centre. These investments are aimed at improving medical care and safeguarding the health and lives of patients who turn to the institution.
