This is the only institution in Ukraine that has not stopped providing dialysis treatment since the beginning of the war and accepted children from all over the country.
Since the beginning of the year, more than 60 children with chronic kidney failure have been treated in the hemodialysis department of the West Ukrainian Specialized Children’s Medical Center.
Different methods of treatment of acute and chronic renal failure are available:
- Hemodialysis;
- Peritoneal dialysis;
- Automated peritoneal dialysis (the machine independently performs the blood purification procedure at night). Patients and their parents are trained in dialysis techniques, which they will later be able to perform independently at home.
From 2021, the patient receives a full cycle of treatment: conservative treatment, renal replacement therapy, and, if necessary, a kidney transplant. The Center also has a waiting list for organ transplantation.
Specialists of the center carry out correction of immunosuppressive therapy and follow-up of patients.
There is a special program for patients with chronic kidney disease in ZUSDMC, according to which the patient receives specific accompanying drug therapy free of charge.
