Tomorrow Lviv will say goodbye to defenders Ivan Mykhalchuk and Vasyl Boev

On Thursday, 26 September, Lviv will say goodbye to soldiers Ivan Mykhalchuk and Vasyl Boev, who defended Ukraine from Russian invaders. The mayor’s office calls on citizens to join the city’s farewell ceremony and refrain from holding entertainment events and celebrations during this time.

The funeral ceremony for the defenders will begin at 11:00 a.m. in the Garrison Church of Ss. Peter and Paul, followed by a citywide farewell ceremony on Rynok Square.

Ivan Mykhalchuk will be buried at the Lychakiv Cemetery, and Vasyl Boyev will be buried at the Holoskiv Cemetery.

Ivan Mykhalchuk (29.01.1993-15.09.2024) was born in the city of Mariupol, Donetsk region.

He graduated with honours from the Mariupol City Lyceum of the Mariupol City Council of Donetsk Oblast. Subsequently, he entered the National Aerospace University named after M.E. Zhukovsky “Kharkiv Aviation Institute”, where he received a degree in Aircraft and Helicopters.

After graduation, he worked as a maintenance engineer for Boeing passenger aircraft at Progresstech-Ukraine, a limited liability company. He was fond of literature, chess and board games.

With the beginning of the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation, he defended his homeland from the invaders. He performed combat missions to defend the territorial integrity and independence of the state in the ranks of the 25th separate airborne brigade of the Sicheslav Air Assault Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Ivan Mykhalchuk is survived by his parents and sister.

Vasyl Boiev (27.09.1987-17.09.2024) was born in the village of Sosnove, Donetsk region.

He studied at Lyceum No. 4 in Lyman, Donetsk Oblast.

As Vasyl Boyev’s father was seriously ill, he immediately started working in the construction industry after finishing the 9th grade. According to his family, he was exceptionally friendly and fond of computer technology. He loved spending time with children – together with his common-law wife, he raised four children.

In 2020, he moved to Rivne region with his family, where he worked at a bakery. In 2023, he moved to Lviv. Here he joined the ranks of the 3rd Border Guard Detachment named after the Hero of Ukraine Colonel Yevhen Pikus of the Eastern Regional Directorate of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine to defend the state from invaders. He performed combat missions in Donetsk region.

Vasyl Boyev is survived by his mother.
