Tomorrow, Lviv will say goodbye to defenders Petr Korsak and Bohdan Babi

On Wednesday, August 16, Lviv will say goodbye to two servicemen. Petro Korsak and Bohdan Babii defended Ukraine from the Russian invaders. The City Hall calls on Lviv residents and guests to join the city’s farewell ceremony and to refrain from entertainment events and celebrations during this time.

The funeral service of the military will begin at 11:00 a.m. in the Garrison Church of Sts. App. Peter and Paul, at 11:30 a city farewell ceremony will take place on Rynok Square. The soldiers will be buried at the Lychakiv cemetery.

Biographical references of defenders

Bohdan Babii (February 9, 1990-August 13, 2023). A native of the village of Lopushna, Lviv region.

He studied at the “Syhivska” Gymnasium (today – the “Syhivskiy” Lyceum of the Lviv City Council). He received his education at the Ivan Boberskyi Lviv State University of Physical Culture. After completing his studies, he served in the military in the Lviv Region.

In peacetime, he worked in trade, later as a freight forwarder. He skillfully played football, was an exceptionally kind and hardworking person.

From the first days of the full-scale invasion, he volunteered to defend the Motherland from the Russian invaders. He defended the state in the ranks of the 115th separate mechanized brigade of the Ground Forces Reserve Corps of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Performed combat tasks in “hot” points of the front.

Despite the injury, he returned to the war in September. On the eve of his death, he was supposed to receive the military rank of “sergeant”.

Bohdan Babiya is survived by his parents, grandmother, brother and 8-year-old daughter.

 

Petro Korsak (February 4, 1979-August 13, 2023). A native of the village of Bortkiv, Lviv region.

He studied at the Bortkiv institution of general secondary education of the I-II degrees of the Lviv region. He was educated at the Lviv Interregional Higher Vocational School of Railway Transport, later at the former Higher Vocational School No. 57.

After completing his studies, he was engaged in car repair.

Participant of the Revolution of Dignity. Then he performed combat tasks in the area of the anti-terrorist operation in the ranks of the then 25th battalion of territorial defense “Kyivska Rus”.

In 2016, he returned from the front due to a serious injury. Dreamed of military affairs. That is why, with the beginning of a full-scale invasion, despite the status of a person with a disability, he volunteered to defend the Motherland. Defended the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the state in the ranks of the 1st separate special brigade named after Ivan Bohun of the operational command “North” of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Performed tasks in Kyiv region, Zhytomyr region, Kharkiv region, Luhansk region, Donetsk region and near the Chernobyl exclusion zone.

For personal heroism, he was awarded the badge of the Ministry of Defense “For Exemplary Service”. He died saving his brothers.

Petr Korsak is survived by his mother and sister and their family.
