On Friday, 12 July, Lviv will say goodbye to soldiers Ihor Lupiy and Yaroslav Bakay, who were killed by Russian occupiers while defending Ukraine.
Lviv City Hall calls on Lviv residents and guests to join the city’s farewell ceremony and to refrain from holding entertainment events and celebrations during this time.
The funeral service for Ihor Lupiy will begin at 11:00 a.m. in the Garrison Church of Ss. Peter and Paul, at 11:30 a city farewell ceremony will be held on Rynok Square. The soldier will be buried at Lychakiv Cemetery.
The funeral of Yaroslav Bakai will begin at 11:00 a.m. at the family home in Pidbirtsi (135 Yakhymovycha Street) and will continue at the local St Nicholas Church. The soldier will be buried at the local cemetery in Pidbirtsi.
Biographical information about the defenders
Ihor Lupiy (05.12.1984-05.07.2024) was a resident of Lviv.
He studied at the secondary school №72. He graduated from the State Vocational School No. 33 (today – the State Vocational Educational Institution Lviv Professional Polytechnic Lyceum). Then he entered the Ukrainian Academy of Printing.
After graduation, he worked at the Rolada garment company in Lviv, and later at a furniture company in the village of Davydiv, Lviv region. According to his family, “he loved people and was reliable, adored his nephews and godson”.
From the first months of the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation, he volunteered to defend the state. He served in the Kharkiv and Donetsk regions in the ranks of the 7th Carpathian Border Detachment of the Western Regional Directorate of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine.
Ihor Lupiy is survived by his mother and sister.
Yaroslav Bakai (19.06.1968-04.07.2024) was born in the village of Davydiv, Lviv region.
He studied at the Taras Shevchenko Lyceum in Davydiv of the Davydiv Village Council. He received the profession of a car mechanic at the State Vocational Educational Institution “Lviv Professional Polytechnic Lyceum” (then – State Vocational School No. 33).
He lived in Pidbirtsi and worked at the Barkom Limited Liability Company. According to the family, Yaroslav Bakai was “a wonderful father and husband”.
With the beginning of the full-scale invasion of Russia, he stood up to defend the state from the occupiers. He performed combat missions to defend the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Motherland in the “hot” spots of the frontline as part of the 110th Separate Mechanised Brigade named after Major General Marko Bezruchko of the Reserve Corps of the Land Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Yaroslav Bakai is survived by his mother, wife, son and brother.
