The Hrybovytsky landfill in Lviv, one of the largest in the country and used as a dumpsite for almost six decades, has undergone significant changes. The total area of the landfill is over 38 hectares, equivalent to the size of 60 football fields, and it has accumulated about 14.3 million tons of waste.
The last four years have been dedicated to the first phase of reclamation, which has now been successfully completed. The completion of the second phase of the project is also planned for this year. The first stage involved a significant amount of work, including covering the area with a special waterproofing film and draining filtration lakes.
Currently, there is one lake left that continues to filter residues, and in a few weeks, the active filling of the landfill will begin, with the aim of its full completion by the end of the year followed by covering the area with green grass, — shared Alexander Yehorov.
