Police Officers in Lviv Region Teach Children to Counter Bullying

Interactive Lessons for Children: How to Recognize and Counter Bullying

Juvenile inspectors conduct interactive sessions in educational institutions in the region, explaining to children what bullying is, how to recognize and counter it. The law enforcement officers emphasize the importance of tolerant attitudes among children.

What is Bullying?

Bullying is a form of behavior exhibited by an individual or group characterized by constant and intentional aggressive behavior towards another person. Persecution can be combined with psychological violence, destroying the victim’s mental health.

Juvenile inspectors teach children to distinguish bullying from ordinary conflicts and misunderstandings. Its main feature is its systematic and long-lasting nature, as it is a planned incident. Additionally, this phenomenon always involves bystanders.

Types of Bullying

  • Verbal – insulting remarks and comments, ridiculing, slandering, threats;
  • Physical – hitting, pushing, throwing objects;
  • Psychological – devaluation, lowering self-esteem, lack of respect, intimidation;
  • Social – exclusion from a group, spreading rumors, isolation, and ignoring the victim;
  • Cyberbullying – offensive comments, messages, or online threats.

The effects of bullying can last for years, leading to excessive anxiety and stress, affecting a person’s physical and mental health. Therefore, police advise children not to participate in bullying, not to be indifferent, and to report such disgraceful incidents to adults: parents, school staff, or a juvenile police officer.

Bullying incidents can also be reported:

  • to the National ‘Children’s Line’ at 0 800 500 225 or 116 111;
  • by calling 102

Together we ensure a safe environment for children!
