Today, July 7, the art installation “Russia Kills” was presented in Lviv on Mytniy Square. In memory of the thousands of Ukrainian civilians killed by Russia and on the eve of the 500th anniversary of the full-scale invasion, the Lviv Regional Council exhibited symbolic silhouettes of 30 Ukrainian men and women killed by the enemy.
According to the acting head of affairs of the Lviv Regional Council, Yaroslav Hasyak, the silent campaign “Russia Kills” is intended to remind everyone that Russia is a terrorist.
“Saturday, July 8, is the 500th day of heroic resistance of Ukrainians to the aggressor. Every day for all these 500 days, Russia commits genocide – killing peaceful Ukrainian civilians. For us, this war has been going on since 2014. But, unfortunately, the whole world began to realize its terrible consequences only from February 24, 2022. The symbolic 30 silhouettes are the stories of Ukrainian civilians killed by Russia. And it continues to kill every day, launching missiles and drones at residential buildings in Lviv, Kyiv, Kharkiv, Odesa, Zaporizhzhia, Dnipro, Kherson, Kremenchuk, Kramatorsk and hundreds of other cities and villages of Ukraine.
Each of these Ukrainians killed by Russia has its own unique story. Each of them should still live, create, work, grow and raise their children, but they were killed. It is necessary to tell the whole world every day that Russia is killing,” Yaroslav Hasiak emphasized.
The deputy of the Lviv Regional Council Maria Kulchytska-Volchko noted that Ukrainians have learned to live in the horrors of war, but we have no right to tire of telling the whole world the truth about it.
“We must remind civilized countries about the terrible Russian threat to world security, in particular by organizing such installations.
The war must end with the victory of Ukraine, a just peace and the punishment of the executioners who took the lives of Ukrainians,” Maria Kulchytska-Volchko stressed.
“We, as well as the memory of thousands of killed civilians, demand from the global joint Hague Tribunal and the Nuremberg Trials against the power of the Russian Federation, against its military leadership and all military and civilians who are involved in Russian aggression and murders of citizens of Ukraine” – the organizers of the art installation noted.
Those present observed a minute of silence in memory of 10 Lviv residents who died the day before as a result of rocket fire, and all Ukrainians killed by the occupiers. Poet and blogger Daria Lisich read her insightful poetry to the participants of the presentation.
It should be noted that, according to confirmed UN data, since February 24, 2022, Russia has killed more than 9,000 civilians in Ukraine, including more than 500 children. And according to the approximate calculations of the Commissioner for Human Rights of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, approximately 19 thousand Ukrainians were killed by the Russian army in 2022 alone.
