In December 2024, the Lviv Regional State Archive made a significant contribution to preserving historical heritage by digitizing 50 cases from the NKVD Investigation Department in the Lviv region, covering the period from 1939 to 1950. These materials shed light on the tragic events involving the persecution of Ukrainian intellectuals, members of national movements, and ordinary citizens.
The digitized cases are now available on the archive’s official electronic resource: https://e.archivelviv.gov.ua/inventories/4.
Additionally, archive specialists have digitized other important historical materials, including:
- 125 cases from the Magistrate of the Royal Capital City of Lviv (Description 1);
- Documents related to the evacuation of various nationalities (Ukrainians, Poles, Czechs, and Slovaks) by descriptions:
- Documents of the Magistrate of the Royal City of Lviv (F.2, op.25);
- Materials from the Galician District Governorate in Lviv:
Iryna Martens, Director of the Lviv Regional State Archive, highlighted the importance of this effort:
“Digitizing documents is not only a way to preserve our historical heritage but also an opportunity to make it accessible to everyone. We aim for these materials to serve scholars, educators, and anyone interested in history. In the digital era, archives act as a bridge between the past and the future.”
The archive continues its work on scanning and publishing new materials, making history more accessible to the public.
