“Drohobych – it’s all salt” – this is the slogan chosen a few years ago for the city of Kotermak, which is home to the oldest continuously operating enterprise in Europe, the “Drohobych Salt Distillation Plant”, which is an important industrial and tourist facility of the city.
Today, the Department of Culture and Tourism Development of the Drohobytsk City Council is working on adding Drohobytsk salt to the national list of elements of the intangible cultural heritage of Ukraine.
The corresponding letter, together with the registration card, photo materials and letters of consent of the bearers of intangible heritage, was sent to the Department of Culture of the Lviv Oblast. After processing, the received materials will be transferred to the Ministry of Culture, where the relevant expert council operates.
The Drohobytsk saltworks is famous for the fact that it has managed to preserve the unique technology of salt extraction, which makes it crystal clear and beneficial for health, without extraneous impurities. And during the full-scale war, when the salt production factories suffered from enemy shelling, the Drohobytsk Saltworks remained one of the strategically important enterprises in the country. And thanks to its respectable age and the uniqueness of its production, the Drohobytsk saltworks is one of the important tourist magnets of the city.
