The all-Ukrainian project “Cities and their heroes” was launched in Lviv, the purpose of which is to show the whole truth about the heroism of the Ukrainian people and the transformation of an ordinary person into a real hero. As part of the project, a photo exhibition with the works of leading Ukrainian photographers was presented in various cities of Ukraine, as well as documentaries about heroic Ukrainians.
The photo exhibition “Cities and their heroes” in Lviv can be seen on the north side of Rynok Square. Photos taken in various cities of Ukraine affected by the Russian invasion are publicly available here. In particular, these are city landscapes and photos of individual objects, as well as photos of city residents who played an important role in protecting their land from Russian invaders.
The exhibition presents the works of leading Ukrainian photographers, including, in particular, Vladyslav Sodel, Valentin Kuzan, Arseniy Gerasimenko, Roman Pashkovskyi, Oleg Totskyi, Igor Tyshenko. It is they who, since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, have captured Ukrainian cities and their heroes in photographs, showing Ukrainians as they are – stable, real, heroic.
The photo exhibition has already been seen in Bashtanka, Okhtyrka, Ivankiv, Kharkiv, Mykolaiv and Chernihiv. It will be valid in Lviv until June 24. After Lviv, it will also be shown in Kyiv, and then in Paris and Berlin.
The main part of the project “Cities and their heroes” is the screening of documentaries about ordinary Ukrainians who were forced by the war to give up their main occupation and turned into volunteers and soldiers. The tapes were directed by Olga Gibelinda and Andrii Lytvynenko.
In each of the 6 cities – Kharkiv, Mykolaiv, Chernihiv, Okhtyrka, Bashtanka and Ivankov – a hero was chosen for a documentary film about the city. Each film reveals its own page of volunteering, efficiency and love for one’s country from Ukrainians.
The premiere of the film “Cities and their heroes” will be held in Lviv on June 24. More about it on the project website and social media pages.
The project is implemented with the assistance of the USAID Project “Economic Support of Ukraine”.
