Professors shot in 1941 were commemorated in Lviv

Lviv sadly remembers the professors who died in July 1941. To honor the memory of the tortured intelligentsia, representatives of the authorities, in particular the mayor of the city Andriy Sadovy, heads of higher education institutions, the academic community and the clergy came to the monument on the Vuletsk hills.

They laid flowers at the monument and prayed for the scientists.

Note that the monument to the scientists shot by the Nazis in 1941 was opened on July 3, 2011. According to the results of the international competition for the best monument, the joint Polish-Ukrainian project of sculptor Oleksandr Sliwa (Krakow) and architects Oleg Trofymenko and Dmytro Sorokevich (Lviv) won.

The monument is a kind of arch consisting of 10 stones that symbolize the 10 commandments of God. The fifth commandment is “Thou shalt not kill!” – significantly disturbed, as if knocked down. This symbolizes that when a person violates the commandment of God, there is a threat to destroy the integrity of the world. The monument is located on the Vuletsk hills in the Student Park of Lviv Polytechnic University.
