47 episodes of child molestation: 49-year-old pedophile sent to forced treatment
According to the public accusation of the juvenile prosecutors of the Lviv Regional Prosecutor’s Office, the involvement of a 49-year-old man from Lviv in committing lewd acts of a sexual nature and sexual intercourse with underage girls was proven in court (parts 1, 2 of article 156, part 1 of article 155, part 4 of article 152 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (as amended until 2015).
The pre-trial investigation established that in order to commit the specified crimes, the man was hiding behind the activities of the children’s spiritual and educational society, of which he was the head. Using the absolute trust of both the children themselves and their parents, during the years 2005-2012 he systematically committed lewd acts of a sexual nature against minor girls and engaged in sexual relations with them.
A total of 147 episodes of the criminal activity of the “cleric” were established.
However, during the trial, the accused fell ill with a mental illness, and in connection with this, the court moved from consideration of the indictment to the decision on the application of coercive measures of a medical nature.
According to the results of the trial, the court agreed with the position of the prosecutor and applied coercive measures of a medical nature to the accused in the form of hospitalization in a psychiatric institution with enhanced supervision. After recovery, he faces up to 15 years in prison.
