Following a public prosecution by the Lviv Regional Prosecutor’s Office, two Ukrainian citizens were found guilty. They were convicted of high treason, participation in a terrorist organisation and activities of armed groups not provided for by law (Art. 111, parts 1 and 2, Art. 258-3, part 2, Art. 260 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
The sentence is 15 years’ imprisonment with confiscation of property for each;
Prosecutors proved in court that in 2022, residents of Donetsk and Luhansk regions voluntarily sided with the enemy. They joined the illegal armed groups of the “people’s police” of the “DNR” and “LNR” terrorist organisations.
The men received military uniforms and weapons. They served as part of an infantry regiment and a motorised rifle battalion of various paramilitary formations. They were enrolled as riflemen.
During their military service, the convicts performed various tasks related to the conduct of hostilities against the Armed Forces of Ukraine. In particular, they strengthened the firing positions of the Russian armed forces for combat, ensured the security of the occupier’s army locations, equipped trenches, dugouts and performed guard duty to protect the territory;
In addition, the resident of Luhansk region guarded a fuel and lubricants warehouse at the occupied oil refinery in Lysychansk.
Both members of the occupation forces were detained by the Ukrainian Defence Forces.
The special pre-trial investigation was conducted by the SBU investigators in Lviv region.
