Under the procedural supervision of the Lviv Region Prosecutor’s Office, the head of a department of the State Service of Ukraine for Food Safety and Consumer Protection was served a notice of suspicion of influence peddling (Part 3 of Art. 369-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
A leading specialist of one of the departments of the State Service of Ukraine for Food Safety and Consumer Protection in Lviv region was also served a notice of suspicion of extortion and receipt of unlawful benefit (Part 3 of Article 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
According to the investigation, the head of a department of the State Service of Ukraine for Food Safety and Consumer Protection demanded USD 3,000 in bribes from a company representative. In return, the man promised to influence his colleagues so that they would not create artificial obstacles to the company’s work.
The suspect was detained in accordance with Article 208 of the CPC of Ukraine after receiving the bribe.
The SBU also exposed a leading specialist of one of the departments of the Main Directorate of the State Service of Ukraine for Food Safety and Consumer Protection in Lviv region, who set up a scheme for systematic obtaining of illegal benefits.
He demanded that a company representative systematically give him bribes. In return, he promised to ensure the smooth passage of phytosanitary control and the issuance of the relevant permits required for the export and import of plants.
To do this, the official set a fixed fee for each vehicle that imported goods into Ukraine.
Law enforcers detained him while he was receiving the next amount of money.
The receipt of unlawful benefit totalling UAH 64,000 was documented.
The investigation is ongoing. The issue of choosing a measure of restraint in the form of detention and removing them from their positions is being decided.
The pre-trial investigation is carried out by investigators of the territorial department of the State Bureau of Investigation.
