Operative employees of the Lviv border detachment, together with employees of the Security Service of Ukraine and the migration police in Khmelnytskyi region, under the procedural guidance of the prosecutor’s office, stopped the attempt to smuggle a man across the border illegally.
As the law enforcement officers established, a 46-year-old railway employee agreed to illegally transport a conscripted citizen of Ukraine to Poland for a monetary reward. In order to implement the transfer service, the conductor hid the man in a specially equipped hiding place of his compartment at the time of the inspection. However, during the inspection of the train traveling abroad, a “vip passenger” was discovered. As it turned out, the “ticket” for the petitioner cost more than UAH 85,000.
The law enforcement officers informed the organizer of the illegal scheme that he was suspected of committing a criminal offense under Part 3 of Art. 332 (Illegal transportation of persons across the state border of Ukraine) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The sanction of the article provides for punishment – deprivation of liberty for a period of seven to nine years with deprivation of the right to hold certain positions or engage in certain activities for a period of up to three years with confiscation of property.
The figurehead of the proceedings was detained in accordance with Art. 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code and a preventive measure in the form of detention was chosen.
The pre-trial investigation is ongoing. Law enforcement officers are identifying all those involved in the organization of an illegal channel for transporting conscripts across the border.
