Near the Ukrainian-Polish border, the border guards of the “Krakivets” department detained eight Iraqi citizens who intended to bypass the checkpoints to get to the neighboring country.
About the movement of an unknown vehicle in one of the A local resident informed the border guards of Yavorivsky district. During the verification of information, the district inspector and operational staff, a few hundred meters from the state border, discovered a Volkswagen minibus, driven by a 61-year-old Ukrainian. During the inspection of the car, border guards found eight Iraqi citizens, four of them children, without identity documents.
The border guards established that all foreigners arrived in Ukraine legally, but decided to enter the EU countries outside the checkpoints.
Currently, the violators have been taken to the border unit for inspection and prosecution under Art. 204-1 of the Criminal Procedure Code “Illegal crossing or attempted illegal crossing of the state border of Ukraine.” The further fate of the detainees will be decided by the court.
