Organizer of Illegal Border Crossing in Lviv Region Detained
It has been established that a 39-year-old resident of Zhovkva, for 9,000 euros, sought to illegally transport a conscript to a European Union country through the state border of Ukraine during martial law.
Crime Details and Apprehension
The perpetrator devised a detailed plan and provided the ‘client’ with instructions regarding the actions to take when crossing the checkpoint into the neighboring state. The offender was identified by investigators from the Criminal Investigations Department of the Lviv Region Police, in collaboration with operatives from the Security Service of Ukraine in Lviv Region and border guards from the ‘West’ Internal and Own Security, under the procedural guidance of the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office in the Defense Sphere of the Western Region.
On February 13th, law enforcement officers detained the suspect under Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine in Lviv after receiving a portion of the sum of 6,000 euros from the ‘client’.
The detainee had cash, communication devices, and other physical evidence of involvement in the crime seized. He has been notified of suspicion of committing a criminal offense under part 3 of Article 332 (Illegal transportation of persons across the state border of Ukraine) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The article’s sanction provides for imprisonment from seven to nine years with deprivation of the right to hold certain positions or engage in certain activities for up to three years with confiscation of property.
The pre-trial investigation is ongoing, and police are establishing the suspect’s involvement in other crimes.
