As a result of the collision, the victim received injuries from which he died in the hospital. The fugitive driver was driving the vehicle while intoxicated.
The traffic accident happened on January 12 around 8:00 p.m. in one of the villages of Drohobytsky district.
As previously established by law enforcement officers, an unknown driver, driving an unidentified car, hit a 55-year-old resident of a nearby village who was walking along the road with a bicycle. As a result of the collision, the man received bodily injuries, from which, despite the efforts of doctors, he died in the hospital. The driver fled the scene.
Detectives of the criminal police, investigators and response teams of the patrol police of the Drogobytsky district police department were involved in the search for the driver responsible for the accident. Forensic specialists worked at the scene.
Through the conducted measures, the law enforcement officers established that the collision was committed by a “Peugeot” car driven by a 27-year-old resident of Drohobych – he was in a state of alcohol intoxication.
The police searched for the car and took it to the special field, and the driver was detained in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. Soon the court will choose a preventive measure for him.
Investigators of the Department of Investigation of Crimes in the Transport Sector informed the fleeing driver of the suspicion of committing a crime provided for in Part 3 of Article 286-1 (Violation of the rules of road traffic safety or operation of transport by persons driving vehicles while intoxicated) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine . For what he committed, he faces a penalty of imprisonment for a term of five to ten years with deprivation of the right to drive vehicles for a term of five to ten years.
