The investigators informed the detainee that he is suspected of committing crimes, the court will soon choose a preventive measure for him.
On September 19, around 11:50, the police received a report that on Ruska Street in Lviv, concerned citizens detained an inadequate man with a knife who attacked an elderly woman.
Patrol policemen, an investigative team and other employees of the Lviv District Police Department No. 1 immediately arrived at the scene. According to the law enforcement officers, the attacker stabbed a 74-year-old local woman in the back without reason, who was passing by him, and then tried to run away. The woman was hospitalized.
The police established the identity of the attacker, a 35-year-old resident of Lviv district. The instrument of crime – a knife – was recovered from the scene.
In addition, the law enforcement officers established the perpetrator’s involvement in a similar crime that occurred on the night of September 19 on Havryshkevycha Street in Lviv. The attacker ran up to a 25-year-old woman from Lviv, pulled out a kitchen knife from under her jacket and stabbed her several times in the chest and stomach, then ran away. The woman was hospitalized.
The police detained the perpetrator in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine.
The investigators, under the procedural guidance of the Galician district prosecutor’s office, informed the detainee of the suspicion of committing criminal offenses provided for in part 2 of article 15 – part 7 of part 2 of article 115 (Complete attempted murder, committed with hooligan motives) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine and Part 4 of Article 296 (Hooliganism committed with the use of firearms or cold weapons or other objects specially adapted or prepared in advance for inflicting bodily harm) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
The maximum punishment provided by the sanctions of the articles is life imprisonment.
The pre-trial investigation is ongoing.
