Police catch laptop thief in Lviv

According to law enforcement, the 35-year-old resident of Lviv “specialized” in stealing office equipment, including laptops. He “worked” mainly in pawnshops, but in one case he stole a laptop from a hostel guest.

The offender’s involvement in four similar thefts was established.

Criminal police operatives and investigators of the Police Department No. 1 of the Lviv District Police Department No. 1 and the Police Department No. 1 of the Lviv District Police Department No. 2, as well as officers of the Criminal Analysis Department of the Lviv Police, were involved in solving the crimes.

The investigators under the procedural supervision of the Halych District Prosecutor’s Office and the Frankivsk District Prosecutor’s Office served the offender a notice of suspicion of committing a criminal offense stipulated by Part 4 of Art. 185 (Theft) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The maximum penalty provided for by the sanction of the article is up to eight years in prison.

The pre-trial investigation is ongoing, and the court will soon choose a measure of restraint.

Law enforcement officers once again remind that under martial law, theft, robbery, extortion, as well as misappropriation, embezzlement or seizure of property through abuse of office, are punishable by maximum penalties.
