Ten militants who fought in the Russian army will be tried in Lviv

Under the procedural supervision of the Lviv Regional Prosecutor’s Office, indictments against ten Ukrainian citizens were submitted to court. They are charged with high treason, participation in a terrorist organization and activities of armed groups not provided for by law (Art. 111, parts 1 and 2, Art. 258-3, part 2, Art. 260 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

The investigation established that residents of Donetsk and Luhansk regions voluntarily sided with the enemy during Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine. They joined the illegal armed groups of the “people’s police” of the “dpr” and “lpr” terrorist organizations.

The men underwent military training and acquired skills in the use of weapons, mastered the tactics of combat, assault, attack, and retreat. Having received weapons and ammunition, they assisted in conducting subversive activities against Ukraine as part of the Russian armed forces.

In addition, one of the defendants was mobilized from Torez Correctional Colony No. 28 (Donetsk region) on the instructions of the colony’s management. Thus, the latter was granted amnesty to fulfill his “debt” to the occupying state.

The man served in the 100th Separate Motorized Rifle Brigade of the 1st Army Corps (military unit 08826) as a rifleman.

Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, the defendants have been fighting in the settlements of Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson, Kharkiv and Zaporizhzhia regions.

The special pre-trial investigation was conducted by investigators of the SBU Office in Lviv region.

Note: According to Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent of committing a crime and shall not be subjected to criminal punishment until his or her guilt is proved by law and established by a court verdict of guilty.
