- With the support of the public prosecution of the Lviv Regional Prosecutor’s Office, two members of the organized group were found guilty of committing thefts (Part 5 of Article 185 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
The court sentenced the organizer to 9 years of imprisonment with confiscation of property. One of the executors was sentenced to 8 years and 1 month of imprisonment with confiscation of property.
Prosecutors proved in court that an organized group secretly broke into homes and robbed people in Lviv region. The group consisted of three Lviv residents.
The organizer was looking for an apartment or a private house whose owners were not at home. He also prepared special devices for picking locks. In addition, he provided instructions to the group members to ensure efficiency and compliance with conspiracy measures.
One of the perpetrators helped his accomplice look for valuables, money and other material values in the apartment. The other monitored the situation on the street and adjusted actions in case the residents returned.
After that, the offenders fled the scene. They distributed the stolen property and money among themselves and spent it on their own needs.
The total amount of damage caused by the defendants to the victims is over UAH 635 thousand.
In total, 6 episodes of illegal activity of the organized group were proved.
During the searches, the SBU found and seized cash, jewelry, other property of the victims, as well as mobile phones with SIM cards and means for unauthorized door opening.
Additionally, we note that the materials in relation to another perpetrator have been separated into a separate criminal proceeding.
The pre-trial investigation is being conducted by the Investigation Department of the Main Directorate of the National Police in Lviv region.
The court verdict will come into force after the expiration of the appeal period.
