The fourth evacuation convoy with children with cancer went to Poland

60 children, previously evacuated from the war zone, and more than a hundred members of their families went to the best clinics in Europe and the world to continue their treatment.

Children who were evacuated the day before to the Western Ukrainian Specialized Children’s Medical Center in the Republic of Poland are waiting in a specially created Unicor clinic. They will then be assigned to other specialized centers based on health and diagnosis.

Thanks to the intergovernmental agreements of our countries and the support of the Office of the President of Poland, this newly established focal point collects information from European children’s hospitals that can and can treat such patients. to be treated “, – said the director of ZUSDMC Andriy Sinyuta.

Most patients and their families are transported to the Polish border by bus. 12 ambulances with a team of Ukrainian and Polish doctors accompany only patients with a serious condition. The Lviv Regional Center for Emergency Care and Disaster Medicine and the Polish organization PCPM took care of medical transport for children.

At the border, children are waiting for a special ambulance train to take them to the medical coordination hub. During the war, about 400 children with serious diseases were evacuated to the Center: onco- and ongematological, orphan (rare), etc. Every day new patients come to ZUSDMC who need help.

All children undergo a medical examination, receive treatment to stabilize any acute condition, and, at the request of parents, are referred to continue treatment in clinics in Europe. Currently, more than 60 children with various oncopathologies remain at the Center. These are mostly patients from the western regions of Ukraine who do not currently plan to go abroad. Thanks to the help of state institutions, regional authorities, and the support of charitable organizations, the Center has enough medicines and funds to provide the necessary medical services. ZUSDMC doctors all remain at their jobs and are ready to provide professional medical care 24/7.
