Barrier-free means equal rights and opportunities for all people in various aspects of life: movement, self-realization, employment, leisure, access to information, receiving services, etc.
Today, September 20, a meeting was held in the Lviv Regional Military Administration under the chairmanship of the Deputy Chief of the Lviv Regional Military Administration for Digital Development, Digital Transformations and Digitalization (CDTO) Oleksandr Kulepin. The meeting was also attended by persons responsible for barrier-free structural subdivisions of the Lviv OVA.
During the meeting, a number of important issues of the barrier-free strategy were discussed, in particular: accessibility at the Main Railway Station of the city of Lviv, because there are the following obstacles: lack of ramps, lack of specially equipped toilets for wheelchairs and the unsuitability of platforms for boarding and disembarking of older people. The meeting also discussed improving the quality of the provision of administrative services for all residents of Lviv region, in particular, ensuring the need for tablets, with the help of which the administrators of public health centers will be able to understand the sign language of people with hearing impairments.
“Since the beginning of the full-scale war, the number of people for whom moving around their hometowns has become a challenge has increased significantly. We understand that not all pharmacies have ramps, that not all TsNAPy are equipped with special devices for communication with persons with hearing impairment, and not all educational institutions provide comfortable conditions for children with autism to study. The list of such “don’ts” is considerable, however, Lviv OVA is developing a strategy to improve the quality of life of all residents and guests of the region. Creating comfortable and high-quality living conditions for all population groups is an important aspect of our work,” Oleksandr Kulepin summarized.
He also added that from now on, barrier-free issues will be resolved in six directions:
Physical accessibility;
Information barrier-free;
Digital accessibility;
Social and civil accessibility;
Educational accessibility;
Economic accessibility.
It should be noted that accessibility and inclusiveness are issues not only of state bodies or local self-government bodies, but also of all ordinary citizens. That is why the Lviv OVA recommends taking two educational series that will help you better understand the needs of people with disabilities and learn to communicate with them competently. The series are posted on the links: Barrier-free literacy and State without barriers.
