10 lorries of garbage removed from Holoskivske cemetery in Lviv

Lviv is carrying out sanitary cleaning of existing cemeteries. In particular, last week, employees of the Municipal Ritual Service cleaned the Holoskivske cemetery.

Despite the fact that there are garbage cans there, unfortunately, visitors to the cemeteries create illegal dumps. For example, 10 lorries of garbage were removed from the largest operating cemetery in Lviv. Therefore, the Municipal Ritual Service calls on relatives of the deceased to take care not only of the cleanliness of their relatives’ graves, but also of the cemetery as a whole.

“All the cemeteries serviced by our company have garbage bins with appropriate signage on their territory.

For example, there are 100 garbage cans at the existing Holoskivske cemetery. However, unfortunately, visitors to burial sites do not always follow the rules for visiting cemeteries and create illegal dumps. This leads to cluttering of the territory and creates obstacles for other cemetery visitors and vehicles, and can even interfere with funeral processions,” says the Municipal Ritual Service.

Therefore, last week, employees of the Municipal Ritual Service carried out sanitary cleaning of the territory of the Holoskiv cemetery. For this purpose, they used special equipment, including a JCB tractor and a GAZ dump truck for garbage collection. This allowed us to remove the spontaneous accumulation of waste caused by visitors to the burial sites. In total, 10 vehicles of rubbish were removed. We also trimmed self-seeding plants and bushes and mowed roads and paths.

“We carry out such work regularly, as Holoskivske cemetery is considered one of the largest operating cemeteries in the western region and is visited by hundreds of people every day.

So we urge cemetery visitors to take care of the cleanliness of their loved ones’ graves and the environment. In particular, to bring fresh flowers to the graves instead of artificial flowers, dried flower wreaths instead of plastic wreaths, and lawn grass instead of artificial grass. After all, plastic takes hundreds of years to decompose, and in open areas under the scorching sun it also releases poison into the atmosphere, which is harmful to health,” the Municipal Funeral Service emphasises.

For reference, Municipal Ritual Service maintains 29 cemeteries, of which 10 are in Lviv and 19 are in the settlements of the Lviv community.
