The Department for Culture, Nationalities and Religions of the Lviv Regional Military Administration, the Lviv Historical Museum and the Resource Center “Barrier-Free Ukraine” organized an introduction to the Lviv Historical Museum’s collection for visually impaired children.
The day before, on February 14, researchers from the Lviv Historical Museum visited Lviv Boarding School No. 100. Students in grades 1-6 got acquainted with more than thirty exhibits from the museum’s collection, reproduced using tactile elements and Braille. These museum items also contain QR codes with tiflocommentary explaining the images.
The artistic and inclusive project “See the Unseen” is being implemented as part of the Comprehensive Program for the Development of Culture in Lviv Region for 2021-2025.
“Enabling people, including visually impaired children, to ‘see the unseen’ was our goal. It is something incredible and very touching at the same time to watch the emotions of young children and teenagers when they get acquainted with portraits of famous figures of Ukrainian and world history or imagine what historic buildings look like. Such moments once again give us an understanding of what we should focus our efforts and funds on in the first place, and the realization that together the authorities, cultural and educational institutions, and the public can create a real miracle for people who are deprived of the ability to see, hear, and move around fully,” said Ivan Sobko, Deputy Head of the Lviv Regional Administration.
