Lviv supports the defenders and directs the funds of the community to purchase necessary equipment for the military. In particular, already this fall, the city intends to hand over 2,000 drones to military personnel. However, the city does not have the authority to purchase weapons, which are also very necessary at the front.
Therefore, if there is a vision of the government that a part of personal income tax from the income of the military should be transferred to the state budget, then Lviv supports this decision so that the soldiers who are fighting for the freedom of our country can get more weapons. The mayor of Lviv, Andriy Sadovy, spoke about this, as well as about the restoration of city shelters and prosthetics for soldiers.
“Recently, there has been a discussion in society, and in Lviv in particular: how should communities help the military? A simple example: this year, Lviv will receive roughly 1.8 billion hryvnias from the Personal Income Tax, which is a tax on salaries from the military. Instead, we plan to spend more than 2 billion hryvnias on our military. These are funds that we transfer directly. These are various equipment, equipment, drones, machines that we buy directly and transfer to military units.
There is also a discussion: whether, perhaps, part of the funds should be transferred to the state? Because this is a request from the government. And there are debates in different communities. My position is clear: the city cannot buy weapons, but the state, the government can buy weapons and can increase the production of our Ukrainian weapons. Therefore, Lviv’s position is very firm and simple: we are ready to give part of our personal income tax, our money to the state, so that there are more weapons and we beat the enemy more.
Tuesday-Wednesday I visited the Donetsk and Kharkiv regions. Talked with our military girls and boys who are there today, on the front lines. These are the 80th, 125th and 103rd brigades. He brought drones from the city community. In general, this autumn we plan to transfer more than two thousand drones. They will help our soldiers beat the enemy – this is our priority,” Andriy Sadovy emphasized.
The city also helps those soldiers who were injured and lost limbs while performing combat missions. As the mayor of Lviv emphasized, the Prosthetics Workshop has been operating in the NEZLAMNI National Rehabilitation Center in our city for a year, which, by making high-quality prostheses for defenders, helps them return to their usual life after injuries.
“Actually, in September a year ago, we opened the first Prosthetic Workshop in Lviv. Thanks to our German colleagues, thanks to the Maltese Aid Service. And during this year, we made several hundred prostheses for our military. 90% are boys and girls from different regions of our country. As you know, we are building the UNBROKEN ecosystem of humanity in Lviv. This includes the production of prostheses, and rehabilitation, and housing construction, and job search for the military. Is it so important. Because today 30,000 of our Lviv residents are on the front lines. We must be ready to help as much as possible to anyone who will need this help,” he stressed.
The appeal also talked about the safety of the citizens here in Lviv. The mayor announced that the city is working on restoring those shelters that have not worked for years.
“An important topic is shelter. I would really ask all residents to be careful and double check what condition they are in. With budget funds, we are also restoring those shelters that have not worked for decades. And we have the funds for this, and we will make the city safer,” Andriy Sadovy said.
He also emphasized the exceptional importance of the teaching profession, especially in wartime, and called on the citizens to congratulate teachers on their professional holiday.
“Another event that deserves attention is Teacher’s Day. In times of war, teachers who are very often under bombardment, under sirens, but teach our children, are heroes. I have a big request. Dear friends, you remember your teachers. Call, say hello, it will be important to them. We have Teacher’s Day on October 1, and we have Intercession, according to the new calendar. And, of course, on this day we honor our defenders. I wish all of us peace, victory, firmness and wisdom,” said the mayor of Lviv.
